India Promise Full Strength for NZ as Srikkanth Lays Down No.1 Goals
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jan 3 2009

New Zealand can rest easy. India will not be sending a second string tour to New Zealand even though the gap between the tour and the second season of the IPL is only three days! This is also because chairman of selectors, Krishnamachari Srikkanth has laid down goals when India should become number 1.
According to Srikkanth, India should achieve its number one dreams in a year’s time. He has set December 2008 as the time by which India should be number one in one day internationals and according to him, India should also touch number one when 2010 is on.
What this means is that India needs to be playing more and playing at full strength to ensure it gets the results it wants in order to achieve these goals.
There was some speculation that India may even rest a few players like Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan amongst others in the course of the tour to New Zealand in a couple of months’ time because the IPL is only three days away after the second Test in New Zealand concludes.
That now appears to be put at rest and India are proposing a series with Sri Lanka and are apparently also asking for a third Test against New Zealand in view of the cancelled tour to Pakistan.
Lots of goals, lots of demands and plenty to play for - seems to be team India’s mantra for 2009!
