Indian Media Laps up Brawl in Perth Test
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Dec 17 2009

The match referee and the ICC is yet to pass its judgement over what happened between Mitchel Johnson, West Indies Sulieman Benn, and Brad Haddin in the third Test of West Indies’ tour of Australia. But the Indian media have already passed their verdict.
The electronic media went into overdrive, shoving mics into the faces of Peter Young, the Cricket Australia spokespersons, and even Haroon Lorgat to get the ICC’s view of the happenings at the WACA on the second day. Young even went onto state that the Australians played cricket within the spirit of the game and there was no need to press for comments.
It appears the verdict has been given that Australia were behind the fracas, that Benn was provoked and that the Australian aggression was evident once more in Johnson shoving away Benn.
The Indians have a bone to pick, given that Harbhajan Singh- Andrew Symonds- Matthew Hayden row aka the Sydney-gate/ monkeygate could not be forgotten and neither the fact that Gautam Gambhir faced a one Test ban against Australia during the Border Gavaskar Trophy in the fourth Test in India after Gautam Gambhir elbowed Shane Watson. What did not get attention was the fact that Watson had provoked Gambhir on the previous run, allowing Watson to go scotfree even as Simon Katich and Gambhir were involved in another confrontation.
