Amid ongoing rumors and unavailable for the first Test former Pakistan skipper, Inzamam-ul-Haq has finally announced his official retirement from Test cricket, as next week’s Lahore Test against the Proteas would be his last one.
One of the proficient and best batsman ever to play for Pakistan is 20 runs short of surpassing, legend Javed Miandad’s record of 8,832 Test runs for Pakistan.
So far, Inzamam has played 119 Tests and scored a Pakistan record of 25 Test centuries, his tally in 378 limited over matches stands at 11,739 runs, yet another Pakistani record.
Being a cricket fanatic, I admire the burly Inzy and especially remember the knock played by him in the 1992 World Cup Semi-Finals against the Kiwis.
The game was truly under the command of the opposition, but after his arrival the whole scenario quickly changed, as he played a gem of an innings, landing his team to the very first final.
He retired from one-day cricket and gave up captaincy following Pakistan’s first round debacle at limited overs World Cup held in Caribbean this year, where the team suffered an ignominious defeat at the hands of weak Ireland.
The 37 year old revealed his decision at a press conference and said,
I have told the selectors of my availability for the Lahore Test which will be my last. I feel this is the right time as the youngsters have played well. It is a tough decision but it is the best for me and my country.
Unfortunately Inzamam’s performance has been below par in half a dozen matches he represented Yorkshire, recently.
Well, from hereon, Inzamam could either go along the breakaway Indian Cricket League or find a prolific seat in the PCB like teammate Yousuf, back in the squad who earlier switched to the ICL.
