There was no Shilpa Shetty at the party. But there was the lissome Katrina Kaif announced as the “reigning Bollywood queen”.
Shilpa Shetty ducked the final closing ceremony stating she had not prepared enough or rehearsed hard enough to be dancing along with Akon and therefore, pulled out at the eleventh hour.
Katrina Kaif expectedly danced to the tune of A.R. Rahman’s Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. However, there were no more tunes to dance to and she eventually gave way to the favourites of the night, the Phoenix Fire Dancers, who outlasted the closing ceremony of the IPL 2 in Johannesburg, South Africa that also saw Eddy Grant perform to “Give me Hope, Jo’anna”.
The disappointment of the night though belonged to the R and B artist from the US, Akon. Widely popular for his lilting music and lyris, the disappointment at the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament came from the fact that Akon was obviously lip syncing to his own songs that drowned in the crowd euphoria just to see him.
Amidst it all was also announced the winner of the Miss Bollywood IPL beauty contest which thirty-five year old model cum actress from East London, Dune Kossatz, won.
