IPL 2 Game 11: RCB Fail to Get Past Kings XI
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Apr 27 2009

It was a day when the Royal Challengers Bangalore decided to fire when Rahul Dravid didn’t. Yet the combined efforts of Jacques Kallis, Ross Taylor and Jesse Taylor were not sufficient to stop the Kings XI Punjab from scoring their first win in the IPL at Kingsmead, Durban.
For a change, Dravid remained largely silent. Instead Ryder got a start for thirty-two and Jacques Kallis and Taylor built a sixty-one run partnership. However, South Africa’s Yousuf Abdulla put the brakes on the Royal Challengers by picking three crucial wickets including that of Kallis for sixty-two. A duck for RCB captain Kevin Pietersen was also a credit to him as well as Taylor’s catch to Mahela Jayawardene.
The innings that hiccupped finally closed on 168, a par score if the RCB could keep it tight and quiet in the field. As it turned out, they failed when it mattered most. It was virtually shocking to watch the RCB fielders turn suddenly sloppy while the Kings XI Punjab adopted a more cautious approach.
First it was Karan Goel who stitched a quiet partnership with opening partner Ravi Bopara. Bopara remained paramount of the Mohali team’s cause with eighty-four runs at the top of the order for Yuvraj Singh and Kumar Sangakkara to then take the team safely and steadily forward to completing the chase in nineteen overs, and a third loss for RCB after their brilliant start against the Rajasthan Royals.
