IPL 2 Game 48: Deccan Chargers Pull It off Against KKR
Sreelata Yellamrazu | May 17 2009

The Hyderabad Deccan Chargers pulled a heart stopping victory that left the KKR captain, Brendon McCullum fuming in the IPL 2 season’s business end in South Africa.
The Deccan Chargers backed themselves to chase down totals on a spinning track in New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. And they backed it up with a performance as once against the Kolkata Knight Riders failed to grab victory from a strong position.
Batting first, Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR made 160 on the back of forty-eight from Brad Hodge who was left out in the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and a forty-three from seventeen balls by fellow Australian David Hussey. Earlier in the day it was Sourav Ganguly, who opening with skipper Brendon McCullum, made thirty-three runs from forty-one balls before leaving it to the Australian pair to make a more decisive dent to their innings scorecard.
Deccan Chargers’ Ryan Harris picked up two wickets but the KKR lacked an incisive wicket taking bowler. It meant that the Chargers were on their way with valuable contributions from virtually all the members of the top order. Herschelle Gibbs and captain Adam Gilchrist started well with a sixty-eight run opening partnership in the first ten overs as Gilchrist scored forty-three from thirty-one balls.
T.S. Suman’s thirty-two became the next handy contribution but the victory also needed the steady hand of Rohit Sharma who made thirty-two just thirteen balls that included thirteen fours and three sixes as Chargers won a humdinger of a match, something that appeared a little out of their reach when they required twenty-one runs from the final over bowled by Mashrafe Mortaza.
