Most teams either go up or end up downhill on the points table. But the Delhi Daredevils have found themselves touching the top of the leader board only to find themselves losing match after match. The Royal Challengers Bangalore though kept their spirits and their chances alive with a win over the Daredevils at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.
The Delhi Daredevils never really got off the blocks and the credit for that must go to Jacques Kallis and Praveen Kumar who set them leaders back early. Virender Sehwag continued his wretched run while Gautam Gambhir’s twenty-seven, AB de Villiers’ twenty-eight and Dinesh Karthik’s thirty-one were hardly going to be enough. If Delhi failed to get going, it was because once the fast bowlers had their say, the spinners got into the act. Praveen Kumar’s three wickets were complimented by captain Anil Kumnle’s two wickets.
134 did not seem a good enough score and with Kallis proving formidable with the bat as well, the Daredevils were pretty much up against the wall. Even when the runs per ball equation was touching a high note, Kallis had Dravid for company and though showed some traditional style batting that did ground RCB strong in their efforts to win the match.
Kallis’ fifty-eight and Dravid’s thirty-eight were further bolstered by Ross Taylor’s little innings for twenty-five that completed the win with Mark Boucher and ensured the RCB stayed in the hunt for the semi finals even as Delhi Daredevils appear to have hit a rough patch.
