IPL 2: Inanity on TV

Sorry for having to be so crude, but the fare being dished out on television in the name of the IPL 2 hype is proving to be a migraine and it’s only been two days since the IPL 2 got underway in Cape Town.
Firstly it was rain that dampened the mood. Somehow the fact that the IPL 2 was not in India made it that much harder to get fellow cricket lovers to share the view on television. Then it was the rain. When one expected to see the opening ceremony, one only saw more craziness and none of which made any sense.
Mandira Bedi has made a name for herself and climbed from the bottom of humiliation to at least try and hold her own in front of more cricket oriented people with the mike. But one couldn’t help but wonder that this was a hair style gone bad. She appeared spaced out and somehow the dress, her look simply failed to catch eye balls, which is what the channel primarily had in mind they first roped her for the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. Her cricket has improved, and respect has now replaced ridicule, but sadly her appearance is taking a beating for the worse, not even noodle straps can save this one, one fears. The usual perky Mandira has been banished somewhere.
Arun Lal and Sameer Kocchhar in the studios far away from South Africa, much like the Indian cricket fans. What an unlikely pair and rather not eye catching. Apart from the eye ball stuff, somehow their boring tirade was too much torture after watching rain for so long. But perhaps it would have been better to watch the rain in mute. No offense to Arun Lal who is an experienced commentator, but there was a certain spunk missing from the IPL and they were certainly not infusing it.
Meiyang Chang may have singing to his credential but perhaps he was not doing the job he was supposed to do, which is basically fill in the gaps between no cricket. He kept talking like a doomsayer, repeating that he did not want to say how bad the weather really was. Two matches did take place eventually so, perhaps Chang can take it down a notch.
But seriously a huge amount of respect needs to be given to all these people for braving doing more when the rain has spelt doom. But for a couch potato and cricket lover, there was little to keep one glued to the television set, when there was no cricket around.
