Once again it appeared to be a case of pressure undoing the more favoured team of the two. Favourites Delhi Daredevils once again tasted defeat in the semi finals as the Deccan Chargers went through in the first IPL 2 semi final. The second one undid the Chennai Super Kings to continue the RCB’s dream run.
The top five batsmen in the Chennai Super Kings playing eleven made good starts, with opener Parthiv Patel top scoring with thirty-six, but they simply failed to push on in the final ten overs. And it cost them in terms of putting additional pressure on the Royal Challengers Bangalore whose confidence and momentum allowed them to sail into the IPL 2 final.
It was left to the youngest hand in the dressing room and one of the oldest to seal the matter in the Royal Challengers favour, even as team owner Vijay Mallya missed the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula One racing this weekend especially for this match. While Force India gained places on the grid during qualifying, so did the RCB in people’s minds.
Manish Pandey produced another gem of an innings, playing for forty-eight while Rahul Dravid, who has been pivotal to RCB’s chances this year, made forty-four runs. Thereafter it was left to the young Virat Kohli and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor to finish with a flourish as the Chennai Super Kings were left fuming once again at opportunities lost.
