The Carribean festival is around the corner and the entertainers are doing the last bit of their practice moves to guarantee themselves a remembering performance.
The cricket world cup 2007 is here with all the speculation and the dreams.
Each team enters the world cup dreaming big but there is a very thick line dividing the war horses from the underdogs. Australia, India, South Africa, New Zealand are the favoured ones and the rest are the ones which can turn the tables if Gods are with them on their day. But one team which has attracted recent applauds by game lovers is Ireland.
Ireland gave South Africa a run for their money when they played a warmup match in Trinidad. Though the Irish team lost by 35 runs, at one stage the team had South Africa at 91 for eight.
The next match with Canada was more fruitful for the Irish team which they won with 23.5 overs to spare. The improvement of Ireland’s bowlers in Trinidad, including Johnston, brothers Paul and John Mooney and Boyd Rankin, has boosted confidence.
Clearly optimistic by the team’s performance, captain Trent Johnston said:
We are indeed going to make an impression in this World Cup. We have been bowling well, our batting has been improving and our fielding has been great. And, if we can continue this way, then we are going to be noticed.
One player who has helped Ireland come this far in such a short time is Ed Joyce and the irony is that shortly after the ICC Trophy, Joyce qualified to play for England through residency and is set to open for England at the World Cup.
Cricket has always been a game of ups and downs and we should not be surprised if Ireland is able to defeat some of the old warhorses in this battle.
