Is it Curtains for Shoaib Akhtar!
Atul | Apr 2 2008

At the age of 32, the Rawalpindi Express faces another ban and this time it is for five years. So where does he go from here, serve it and then stage a comeback at 37, he would have to be some sportsmen to do it at that age. He does have the freedom of challenging it but till when that dispute would settle, it could already be late.

All these must be questions making every Shoaib fan and the man himself nervous. What could have been an illustrious sporting career, is seemingly ending as one marred by controversies through out. Chucking ban, doping ban, ban for assaulting a team mate and a few other incidents ruined his career which surprisingly sped over 11 years but only included 46 tests and 138 ODIs.

This is what Shoaib had to say after the ban was announced:

I am deeply disappointed and hurt, I will go to court and fight against the ban

The PCB believes that he was a bad influence on the team and thus he could no longer continue as a national team player nor would he be entitled to play in any format of the game within Pakistan. The differences between him and the board began when he wasn’t given one of the 15 contracts recognising him as a level one player, which is a player offered a centralised contract.

I personally felt that he is a true entertainer and deserves to be a part of the team at the fag end of his career we though wouldn’t get the privilege of watching him play for his country. The only opportunity now is IPL.

Yes, I agree with Vikas because at the age 37 it’s impossible for Shoaib Akhtar.
