When Sachin Tendulkar said that Dhoni was good but so was the team, he was only stating a fact and a maxim in cricket – you are only as good as your team. But is it always true?
Sachin Tendulkar was spending time with his family is Mussorie but count on the media to not lose the opportunity to interact with cricket’s superstar. Tendulkar was discussing other matters including that of India’s decision not to tour Pakistan when he also mentioned his opinion that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was a very good captain but that it was team effort that ensured India had such a successful run, especially against England, and that it would not have been possible if just one or two guys rose the occasion.
There is little doubt that Dhoni has charisma, leadership abilities and level headed thinking that keeps his feet on the ground, in victory and in defeat (though he has tasted little of the latter). He has also had at his disposal some of the best personnel in the business but he has often also had to lead a side that could have easily have been a star studded ego line up combining with the younger fledglings in the side. But he has not let either phase him and though it is too early in his career yet, he has shown the makings of a good captain.
There was no malice in what Tendulkar said, after all, cricket is a game played by eleven men. Ask Ricky Ponting. You are only as good as your team.
I think team is better than Dhoni.
