Ravindra Jadeja finds an uncanny way to draw the spotlight towards him and not always in a delightful way. The story was little different in Hyderabad during the sixth ODI of the India Australia ODI series where India lost by a margin of three runs that could well decide the series.
Jadeja was batting with Sachin Tendulkar as the latter took the cricket world by storm with his 17000 ODI runs but also, with his magnificent century, 175 to be precise. But Tendulkar’s dismissal when India needed just nineteen runs from seventeen balls should have seen Jadeja complete the job. But it was that eagerness which he thinks cost India the match.
Jadeja was seen hopping mad at the crease whether a run presented itself or not. With Praveen Kumar at the other end, the jitters were too much and it always looked like a run out was on the cards which is exactly what happened.
But Jadeja has since spoken out about how the over eagerness to finish off matters resulted in that ill fated run out that eventually made it harder for India to pull off a win.
Jadeja has had similar troubles previously in the series and his slow run scoring during the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England drew a lot of flak as also the captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision to send up higher up the order.
Jadeja may be picking up precious spinning cues from Shane Warne with his stint with the IPL team, the Rajasthan Royals, but there will be many more learning lessons hopefully that Jadeja will come out on victorious side of.
