The ICL may have lost many of its personnel. But it does not bother one man, considered generally fearless anyway. Kapil Dev is certainly not throwing in the towel, yet.
The ICL faced tons of humiliation and all at the behest of the BCCI who influenced the ICC against granting it recognition and arm twisted to ensure other Boards did what it had done to its own players who had chosen to go the ICL way, ignore them.
However, even as the ICL was threatening legal action against the ICC, the BCCI offered amnesty to those were associated with the ICL. Suddenly the ICL’s leniency in letting their recruits go meant that a huge exodus of players moved away from the ICL in favour of hoping to find some succor back with the BCCI.
But Kapil Dev, India’s captain when India won the limited edition World Cup in 1983, who has been the face of the ICL, has refused to tow the BCCI line again, saying he had done nothing wrong to apologise fore. While stating that he held nothing against those that had chosen to disassociate themselves from the ICL, Kapil indirectly indicated that the BCCI had manipulated the people to part with the ICL with the BCCI intent to make IPL the only recognized Twenty20 league in India.
Kapil Dev is no stranger to controversy as he fielded awkward questions from Rakhi Sawant during the ICL finals. But even as Rakhi has taken reality television to a step further with her “Swayamvar” show, Kapil has refused another.
Kapil Dev also reportedly turned down an offer to take part in the reality television show “Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao” on Sony Television based on the show “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here”. The channel spoke about Kapil wanting higher remuneration but Kapil refused to elaborate on it.
