Karthik To Stand By for Gambhir, Sehwag Injuries
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 1 2009

The injury list is not restricted to Australia alone in the ongoing India Australia ODI series as India has called up Dinesh Karthik as cover for the two injured openers.
Dinesh Karthik, who last played for Indian in the ICC Champions Trophy in the absence of Virender Sehwag, has been recalled once more to the Indian team to be drafted in case either Gautam Gambhir or Virender Sehwag or both fail to recover from their respective injuries sustained in the third match at Feroze Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
The fourth ODI of the series features in Mohali with just a day’s gap separating the two matches and whether the Indian openers can recover in time remains a question mark.
Gautam Gambhir was hit on the neck as the Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, attempted a pull shot. Gambhir was so badly injured that he could not come out to field for the rest of the innings. Though he did come out to bat, he did not stay too long.
Sehwag suffered a foot injury when facing a Peter Siddle delivery and it now remains to be seen whether India can field an unchanged side.
