The theory that Pietersen has problems with coaches has been extended further with former Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket, Mike Newell, alleging that Pietersen is not necessarily respectful to people he thinks of as less than ideal caliber at this level.
According to Newell, Pietersen has grown up around South African coaches and with Clive Rice for mentor early on in his career, Pietersen has never really adjusted to anyone who is not a South African or one whose merit did not involve international cricket. Newell also expressed doubt he could get along with coaches who did not put Pietersen in the leading line.
Newell said while Pietersen was not disrespectable, there was no middle ground on which to broker peace even though Pietersen professionally saw out his contract with Nottinghamshire even though he wanted to move with the idea to prove his worth for selection for the England cricket team.
