
Injuries to some of the vital players has become a growing concern for the World Champions - all rounder Andrew Symonds absence and Michael Clarke’s hip spam is already an apprehension for the Aussies and this latest injury is a certain blow for their hopes of remaining at the pinnacle of the ICC rankings.
The 30-year-old speedster, Brett Lee has been ruled out of the first ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy against the Trans-Pacific neighbours, New Zealand. Lee tripped during a fielding session at Wellington’s Basin Reserve ground and was immediately carried to the hospital where the scans reveal no breakage in the left knee or the ankle but he will require further scans to rule out any ligament damage.
Cricket Australia has held back Captain Ricky Ponting and Vice Captain Adam Gilchrist from the tour - in whose absence the task of leading in this crunch situation (where the team if looses the series could also loose out on the top World ranking to the Proteas, which would be gust for the defending champions just ahead of the World Cup) is bestowed upon Mike Hussey.
