McGrath Speaks His Mind - His Pain, Pakistan, Buchanan and IPL not in India
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Apr 13 2009

Glen McGrath is a name that needs no introduction. It is also a name batsmen give a lot of respect to. In India en route to South Africa for the IPL, McGrath kept the newsies busy and certainly spoke about everything that has affected him in the past year.
McGrath has retired from Australian cricket. But his name evokes the same respect it did when it turned him the green and gold uniform. Now the colours are different- red and black but it has not affected his accuracy or his miserliness, with the ball that is.
McGrath is more involved off the field these days with the Jane McGrath Foundation, named after his late wife who passed away last year. Raising breast cancer awareness is one of his top most priorities at the moment as is taking care of his two kids. If McGrath wondered if he still could feel like wanting to be part of the dressing room or if he was still capable of sending the batsman’s mind on alert at all times, his hunger has only forced him to honour the two year contract with the Delhi Daredevils for the IPL.
McGrath felt sorry for the talent that is rotting in Pakistan due to their unstable political situation and he is even more disappointed that the IPL is not being played in India after experiencing first hand the cricket mania in the country for Twenty20 and the IPL.
McGrath also dismissed John Buchanan’s multiple captain theory stating that Australia had traditionally done well under one captain who took advice from many and there was no need to upset the balance within the team.
The Daredevils will be without Mohammad Asif for obvious reasons but in Fervez Maharoof and Ashish Nehra in the team, McGrath insists the bowling attack is complete with Daniel Vettori and the batting, an excess with Gautam Gambhir and skipper Virender Sehwag.
But he is determined to ensure that the Daredevils win the IPL this time round after being halted in their tracks in the semi finals against the eventual winners, the Rajastan Royals. That is his main motivation at the moment, a remarkable sense of focus for a man whose responsibilities towards his own personal and social life have been exponentially increased.
