After a month of speculation in the English media, finally it’s official. In order to prolong his test career, England captain Michael Vaughan has decided to quit the captaincy of one-day side. Though, he is still interested in being a part of England one-day side.
No doubt, Vaughan is a tremendous player and a match winner on his day but his one-day record is abysmal. Vaughan has not scored a century in 86 one-day matches and only averages around 27, which is definitely not that flash for top order player.
According to Vaughan,
I will continue to play one-day cricket for Yorkshire and it is not my intention to retire from one-day international cricket as a player
All-rounder Paul Collingwood stands as the leading contender for the captaincy of England one-day side. Not only Collingwood is in the form of his life at the moment but also possesses good leadership skills.
I completely agree with Vaughan’s decision because England as a one-day side is struggling for a long period of time and the team needs a new leader. Paul Collingwood with his energy and exuberance can give England a bit extra in the shorter form of the game.
