Murali to tour down under: Eyes Warne's record
Sameer Kumar | Oct 24 2007

The magic of Murali would try to surpass the wizardry of the Warne, come this Australian summer, well, at least statistically speaking. Muttiah Muralitharan is setting foot on the turf down under after a gap of 15 long years & the last time he was there it surely did not leave a good taste in the mouth.

But then age & a tormenting disaster have changed his perception towards the game. The tsunami that hit the Sri Lankan coast in 2004 & wrecked havoc seems to have left an indelible mark on the ace off-spinner. When asked about taunts from the crowd Murali just said

You never know what is the next thing that will happen in life. In 20 minutes, anything could have happened, we could have been injured or taken back to the sea. So that’s the luck. Life goes on.

The smiling assassin had left the coastal city of Galle just 20 minutes before the tsunami washed the city away in 2004. It seems Murali has found new peace in his life. I always say that life sometimes shows you perspective in a hard way. Murali found his, I guess.

The Sri Lankan spearhead needs only 8 more wickets to surpass Shane & he has two tests to do it on Aussie soil. Murali says that it would be difficult & Mark Taylor agrees saying that it’s not going to be easy. The two tests are going to be fought out in Hobart & Brisbane. Murali says

8 wickets is a lot in two test matches.

What? Is that Murali talking? Sure, the tracks won’t turn in Australia but Murali can turn it on a glass surface as well. There will be bounce foe sure at Brisbane & Murali will enjoy that. I say Murali will break Warne’s record in the first match itself. If not, then surely in the second. I’m willing to bet even against Murali himself on this!
