The latest format of the Friends Provident Cup will not be played at the Lord’s after all after the ECB and the MCC locked horns.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) faced resistance from the MCC, which holds the rights to the grounds at Lord’s, over the hosting of the final of the Friends Provident 40 over final.
The reason - the MCC was not happy with the timing of the final - 18th September, which in the MCC’s opinion did not give it enough time to sell tickets because the semi finals would be held only the week before.
The short format of the game has been shortened to a controversial 40 over match and it appears that not since 1963 will Lord’s not host a domestic final match!
