No KP for ICC Champions Trophy; Flintoff to Play Big Part
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Aug 18 2009

Kevin Pietersen’s Achilles heel has put him out of England’s immediate future plans. It also means that Andrew Flintoff will have to take on the enormous burden of the team’s genuine all rounder despite his own knee injury issues.
Paul Collingwood will take over as captain of the England team for the two NatWest International Twenty20 matches against Australia as also against the one off one day international against Ireland scheduled for the 27th of August.
The ECB made this move with a view to give Andrew Strauss rest before the ODIs against Australia after the fifth Test at the Oval. Collingwood had a torrid time as captain in the ICC World Twenty20.
Pietersen’s injury has meant a longer break than anticipated and it will mean there will be no respite for Andrew Flintoff who has announced his retirement at the end of the Test series in the Ashes.
James Foster, Dimitri Mascarenhas miss out while Joe Denly earned a call to the national squad after his impressive performances for Kent. Ravi Bopara was dropped for the fifth Test of the Ashes after he struggled to get scores under his belt. But he finds himself in the ODI squads and will hopefully get a chance to redeem himself.

Australia England ODIs and ICC Champions Trophy squad for South Africa: Andrew Strauss, James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Joe Denly, Andrew Flintoff, Eoin Morgan, Matt Prior, Adil Rashid, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright.
