Twenty20 may be a proverbial youngster’s game, but there was not a young soul on the podium. But what was offered was rock solid in gold.
The 2010 IPL 3 opening ceremony started on a somber note with formal speeches from the BCCI President, Shashank Manohar, and the IPL Commissioner and Chairman, Lalit Modi. But it soon sprang into action once UB40 took stage only to be quickly followed by a vintage performance (costume et al) from ABBA. Drum beats were soon replaced by a melodious voice, that of Lionel Richie, who belted out to a vociferous crowd.
In between it all, was Bollywood starlet, Deepika Padukone, shaking a leg to Bollywood numbers.
But as good as the extravaganza was, what the crowd was really waiting for the charged up contest between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Deccan Chargers.
