Pak Aus T1 Day 2 Stumps: Pak Batsmen Disappoint, Watson Gets Five-for, Oz Get 205 Run Lead
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jul 14 2010

Pakistan’s young batting line up lay exposed as they failed to cash in on the tremendous job done by the bowlers. Australia were pegged back a bit, but are still in command of the first Test of the Pakistan Australia Test series at Lord’s at the end of the secodn day’s play.
Australia’s innings final wicket with the score on 254, Michael Hussey unbeaten on a half century. Mohammed Aamer picked up his fourth wicket of the innings and one would have thought the Pakistan team woudl take the inspiration into their batting.
But while Salman Butt stood out for sixty-three runs, Pakistan found themselves in deep trouble at five down for eighty-three. On a day when play was interrupted on more than one occasion due to bad light and rain, Pakistan only kept falling and not to genuine fast bowling but rather a few follies of thier own.
Shane Watson proved to be the unlikely hero of the day, picking up five of Pakistan’s wickets even though the Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, tried to bat the team out of trouble with his thirty-one runs. Pakistan had undone their own hard work on the first day, bowled out for 148, giving Australia a lead of 105 runs.
By the close of the second day’s play though, Pakistan will feel they fought back, once more through their bowlers, as Australia ended up on 100 for four at stumps, Simon Katich leading the way once more with forty-nine unbeaten runs.
