Pak Eng T1 Day 1 Stumps: Colly and Debut Ton Morgan Save England with 200 Run Bond
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jul 29 2010

If Pakistan thought they had the handle over proceedings after lunch on the first day of the first Test of the England Pakistan Test series at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
Kamran Akmal blew hot and cold as did Pakistan during the course of the day. The Pakistan wicket keeper dropped the England captain, Andrew Strauss, early, but fortunately Pakistan picked up the wicket of Alastair Cook to go into lunch not feeling entirely empty.
However, the post lunch session immediately yielded rewards with Mohammad Aamer taking three of the four wickets to fall and England found themselves in considerable trouble for four down for 118 after Strauss made forty-five and Jonathan Trott scored thirty-eight runs.
But thereafter what followed would have pleased England immensely. Debutant Eoin Morgan joined forces with Paul Collingwood as Pakistan began to lose their scope without Aamer. Umar Gul struggled as did Pakistan while Morgan and Collingwood amde themselves comfortable at the crease.
England quietly moved from vulnerable to steady to sturdy to dominant as the day wore out. Leading the way was Morgan who made a fine Test century on debut - 125 runs - (Suresh Raina making his earlier in the day in the India v Sri Lanka Test match), Collingwood remaining unbeaten on eighty-one as the duo raised a double century partnership. England picked up the pace, scoring 141 runs in the final session of thirty-five overs. England finished high and handsome on four down for 331 at stumps.
