Now that Pakistan’s Test series against Sri Lanka is over, reports are emanating of players talking of Indian bookies coming too close for comfort.
Pakistan cricketers have alleged that Indian bookies had managed to break security to try and communicate with the cricketers about possible attempts to fix the Test matches in Sri Lanka. These are serious allegations of major breach of security code and norms. They have stated that they were approached for lunch/dinner and it was upon the team management learning of it, that the players were moved out of the hotel floor that they were staying on.
There were serious allegations raised after Pakistan collapsed badly thrice in four innings and drew with Sri Lanka in the final Test despite having a good chance of winning.
If this is confirmed as true, it would once again open up the murky world of match fixing, whose shadow has not quite left since South Africa’s Hansie Cronje broke his silence by speaking about his misdeeds in association with the bookies.
