Pakistan is clearly unhappy over the ICC inclining to drop Pakistan from the hosting rights of the 2011 World Cup. They have suggested an alternative.
Pakistan are deftly using the cancelled David Cup tie between India and Australia as a valid excuse for ICC to consider even India unsafe to host the World Cup. The Davis Cup tie, in the Asia Oceania Group 1, was originally scheduled to be played in early May. However, Australia refused to tour India, citing the IPL moving out of India as well at the time of the general Lok Sabha elections, and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) decided to award the tie to India, against Australia’s protests.
Now Pakistan want the ICC to look into the issue as a pointer that neither India nor Sri Lanka were safe to host the 2011 World Cup, originally jointly awarded to Asia which also includes Bangladesh. But with the terrorists striking on the touring Sri Lankans on the 3rd of March earlier this year while they were en route to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore made it untenable for the ICC to give Pakistan continuance on the issue.
It now appears Pakistan have decided to take India down with them as they have appealed to the ICC to change the venue altogether for the 2011 World Cup by awarding it jointly to Australia and New Zealand who were to host the 2015 World Cup and in its stead, have the Asian countries host the 2015 World Cup.
