
The scenes were similar. It did not matter if Karachi, Islamabad or Lahore. Everyone, the flag was raised, the people were euphoric, whether gathered in the streets, at shopping malls, or in cafes across the street. Pakistan’s victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in England certainly replaced pictures of the Indian team atop the tour bus and the crazy euphoria that followed.
It was a time when momentarily Taliban’s threat to use Pakistan’s nuclear weapons on the US was forgotten. It was a time when the many serial bomb blasts in Pakistan were forgotten, not least of which the one outside the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore against the Sri Lanka in march. It was a time when Iran was a far away story or the battle between President Zardari and the rest of Pakistan and/or the world.
When pictures once again spoke a thousand words, or a thousand voices all in unison!
