India wins historic test series against England
AMIT | Aug 14 2007

Kevin Pietersen’s recovery from illness just before the third test proved vital to England team’s battle to save the test, though the series belonged to India.

The fifth day of the third test belonged to Pietersen, who batted to save the test for his side, scoring 101 precious runs. It was known that the England team would play for a draw rather than an unprecedented victory. The day started with the openers batting cautiously not letting Indian lions to threaten them. However, a few hiccups in the middle gave India a hope of sweeping the series2-0, but to Pietersen’s 101 eluded India’s chances.

No doubt, the series belonged to India, their first test series victory on the English soil in 21 years. And truly, India deserved it for displaying exciting cricket, with almost all the Indian batsmen in form and the bowling attack led by spin legend Anil Kumble. What else India could have asked for? Nonetheless, India could still try to plug the loopholes and see to it that the batting collapses in the second innings do not steal the shine of the first innings.
