Robin Singh, Prasad Sacked!
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Oct 15 2009

While all eyes were on the Indian team to be selected for the series against Australia, the BCCI threw another jolt.
The India-Australia series that will start in less than ten days’ time has already caused a few ripples and no one is feeling the backlash more than the support staff. While coach Gary Kirsten is safe, for the moment, the two assistant coaches, Venkatesh Prasad, the bowling coach, and Robin Singh, the fielding coach, have been sacked by the BCCI.
The sacking comes in the immediate aftermath of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 in South Africa where India performed dismally after also failing miserably in the ICC World Twenty20 in England. The bowlers have lacked rhythm and especially the situation with Ishant Sharma has been most perplexing.
While it is understood that the confusion of coaches, with Ishant preferring Manoj Prabhakar, has not led to the sacking, India’s dismal performances have played their part. The fielding standards have been awful at most times and it must be a concern why this is so despite having Robin Singh in the ranks.
The sacking should send a warning that the BCCI is taking cognizance and not too many heads can considered themselves safe! Wonder though how they will tackle the threat of IPL affecting the players’ mindsets though!
