SA Eng ODI 1: Rain Predicting Possible Washout Even as Strauss & Co Need no Friends in SA
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 20 2009

The much expected war of words was expected to give way to action on the field. However, rain is doing its best to prevent a confrontation on field.
The first ODI between South Africa and England at the Wanderers, Johannesburg took a turn for the worse when the pouring rain has meant there is no early prospect of the match and even the remote possibility of it turning into a Twenty20 match appears bleak at the moment.
Meanwhile, Andrew Strauss, the England captain, has responded to the South African coach Mickey Arthur’s comments about how South Africa should forget forging friendship and focus on the job at hand, stating that England were not looking for friends either.
Referring to Jonathan Trott, Strauss stated that none of the England cricketers would get diktats about how friendly they should be with South African cricketers off the field but that England and Trott in particular were more interested in run making and in winning matches, not in adding to their friends’ list.
Fair enough.
