SA Eng ODI 2 Half Time: England Check Hosts With Wickets
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 22 2009

South Africa found themselves fighting the beast within in the first real match of England’s tour of South Africa in the second ODI.
South Africa struggled to put up a score in the second ODI and it was not for want of exceptional England bowling. However, South Africa lost too many wickets as crucial junctures of the match to really press Andrew Strauss and company.
Despite the England captain dropping three catches, England managed to latch on to all the chances provided by the South African batsmen to leave the hosts battling right through the match to push up the total.
After the early wickets of South African captain, Graeme Smith, and Ab de Villiers, JP Duminy and Hashim Alma, thrust into the opening role after Jacques Kallis was ruled out with a rib fracture, put up a key seventy-three run partnership to bring back some sanity in the South African batting, reduced to two down for thirty-eight in the ninth over.
While Amla made fifty-seven, JP starred with forty-one runs in a gritty fight to seize control. But when South Africa should have pushed on from 111 in the twenty-fourth over, South Africa lost wickets again, Ryan McLaren and Albie Morkel not even bothering to tickle England too much.
It took another sustaining innings from Alviro Petersen scoring his second ODI fifty with sixty-four runs before South Africa eked their way to 250 for nine,a target that may not be enough, unless the bowlers come to the party much like James Anderson who took three wickets or Tim Bresnan and Paul Collingwood who each have two wickets to their name.
