It appears India is setting the precedent again defying the ICC. But it has a few more for company.
The ICC had announced way back in June that the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) would become mandatory in all Test matches starting 1st of October, 2009, the current India Sri Lanka Test series is not using the system and neither will South Africa as England tour the region.
There have been many issues surrounding the UDRS but presently perhaps nothing is more relevant than the fact that the host board and broadcasters have to shell out money to have the technology in place and that the ICC will not be partaking of the expenditure involved.
Irked by the decision and also a lukewarm response to use the technology that has had its critics as well as its advocates, the BCCI decided to forego it for the series against Sri Lanka.
South Africa are following suit, much to the surprise of the England team if the England coach, Andy Flower, is to be believed.
However, the ICC still sees a silver lining in that New Zealand will be deploying the UDRS technology with the help of a local sponsor in their home series against Pakistan during the Test series.
