That seems to be the plan for the England county team after signing on Australia’s Adam Gilchrist.
Middlesex is believed to have worked closely with MCC to have some of the legends of the game in the team for the Twenty20 challenge next season. In their efforts, they have been successful in getting Gilchrist on board but are awaiting word on Sachin Tendulkar’s confirmation.
The attempt to sign on big names appears deliberate on two fronts - one would be to qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 next year (Middlesex would have made it had the inaugural event taken place last year as scheduled). The other reason would be to divert even more attention to the domestic Twenty20 Cup, much on the lines of the IPL where Sachin Tendulkar leads the Mumbai Indians and Gilchrist is captain of the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers.
