The channels are going gaga sensationalizing the encounters, the love triangles, and what have you at the Sahara Sports Awards held on Monday.
Gautam Gambhir bagged the Cricketer of the Year award but the limelight was clearly focussed elsewhere. Even with the presence of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh appeared to have stolen the eyeballs.
Abhinav Bindra was presented with the Memorable Moment of the Year award but that is not where the attention was.
The Deepika Padukone-Dhoni-Yuvraj supposed love triangle was the cynosure of all eyes. Dhoni had openly confessed to liking Padukone which the rest of the media and fans clamoured for news hinting at a possible relationship. However, Padukone’s close friendship with Yuvraj became the sign of the times as India went on to win the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia.
However, even those stories fizzled out as Deepika ended up in the arms of a Bollywood hunk, Ranbir Kapoor. Now with the supposed break up between the two with Ranbir comfy with another Bollywood darling at least during filming, Katrina Kaif, the sensationalizing of Padukone presenting the Team of the Year award to Dhoni even as Yuvraj was seen revelling at Padukone’s moves on the stage became the talking subject.
But Padukone set her eyes on another man, her father and badminton champion, Prakash Padukone, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
