Sena Trains Gun on Sachin Again - Calls Him Selfish for Not Helping Kambli
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 23 2009

Shiv Sena is not backing down at all from taking potshots at Sachin Tendulkar. In their latest attack, Sanjay Raut claims that Sunil Gavaskar is more the son of the soil than Tendulkar because the latter has not helped fellow Maharashtrian cricketers including Vinod Kambli.
Shiv Sena MP writes in the Saamna, “Sachin in undoubtedly a great player, but there is not a single instance of him helping fellow Marathi speaking players. He did not even support Vinod Kambli. Sunil Gavaskar can be called a true Maharashtrian because he helped local players, Suru Nayak and Zulfikar Parkar find a place in the national team. They may have played just one Test but are eligible for a decent pension from the cricket board.”
Of Sachin Tendulkar’s money through sport, Raut adds, “Sachin may be badshah of the cricket world but he can’t be bigger than Maharashtra. He has made a lot of wealth because of cricket - beyond Rs 200 crores and we can be proud that he is a Marathi person. But why should he not be proud of being a Marathi person, like Sourav Ganguly who is proud to be a Bengali?”
This seems like an obvious attempt to keep the embers burning, but using incidents from cricket to substantiate their stand.
