The effects of giddy amounts of money appears to be experienced closer to home as senior members of the Indian team are complaining to the BCCI members about the lack of attitude from the juniors.
The biggest danger with the IPL was the fall out of the impact on young Indian cricketers who would no longer show respect or interest in the pride of earning the Indian cap.
If Ratnakar Shetty and the senior members in the team are anything to go by, the trouble is already apparent.
Shetty spoke about his conversation with one of the seniors of team India who was disturbed by how the younger members of the team appeared not to be bothered by India’s performance and subsequent ouster in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 in South Africa and of how the much disregarded domestic tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy, have been further diluted due to the youngsters believing the IPL is everything as far as they are concerned.
One cannot say that they did not see this coming, that’s for sure.
