Shahid Afridi Asks Not to Be Picked for Tests!
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Oct 26 2009

This may not quite be the freelance cricketer. But Shahid Afridi is proving to be a variant of it. Just days after speculation that he could take over captaincy of Pakistan cricket when Younis Khan resigned, Afridi is once again ready to give Test cricket a miss!
Shahid Afridi took over as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain after Younis Khan resigned from the post and from the Twenty20 team following the win in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England.
Pakistan’s loss to New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 semi final saw matchfixing allegations levelled at all and sundry, especially Pakistan captain, Younis Khan. Angry, Younis tendered his resignation which was later rejected by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
But Shahid Afridi’s name continued to do the rounds. But now it appears Afridi wants nothing to do with Test cricket. Here’s why.
Amidst reports that Misbah ul Haq was not being rested as speculated but dropped due to inconsistency in form, the supposed rifts between Afridi and Younis Khan were also repaired.
Afridi, who has not played a Test in three years, has now requested the selectors not to pick up for the next one year which will see the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean where Pakistan go as defending champions followed by the 2011 World Cup and Afridi wants to focus completely on both these formats to bring the cup back home.
