The expected change has finally happened. Shahid Afridi leads his country for the first time in his career in a Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka.
Afridi was the star of the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England. His performances against South Africa and Sri Lanka in the semi final and final proved to be the clincher for Pakistan to claim their first hand at the Twenty20 format.
Younis Khan though has been a reluctant Twenty20 captain which he openly admitted. That he did not take it as seriously was an allegation aimed at him over comments he made in a light vein. He stepped down as the Twenty20 captain after Pakistan won the tournament and with Afridi’s performance, there was only man that was unanimously expected to pick up the baton.
Can he now rise to the challenge of handling a team after handling himself exceptionally well for the duration of the Twenty20 tournament?
