Shane Watson and injury. The two are almost synonymous and if Watson maintains consistency, another injury could well be his undoing this summer in England during the Ashes.
Watson, a talented all rounder, who has suffered a string of injuries that have deeply impaired his career, was hoping that his being picked in the Ashes squad would reignite his career. However, that will temporarily be put on hold partly because Marcus North has done well for himself and while Andrew Symonds is no longer on tour, Watson has his other companion to worry about.
Injuries have been a part and parcel of Watson’s game and even as he makes a comeback to the Australian squad since the ICC World Twenty20 in England that Australia failed to get past the group stage in the group of death, a knee injury has caused Watson to miss two practice sessions and he could well miss the first practice match against Sussex.
Australia should not have too many worries as Watson is still the fringe player in the Australian squad. But should he be called to play a frontline role, they would do well to nurse back early.
