Siddle, Nielsen Target Schedules for Injury Casualties
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 5 2009

There is a growing concern, not just with the coach or captain, but also amongst cricket heads in Australia about the spate of injuries and the reasons for it.
Cricket Australia is taking cognizance of the fact that relentless cricket has resulted in a spate of injuries Australia can ill afford while paving their road to the top again.
Not appreciative of two ICC tournaments in one year, the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2009, even the chief of the players’ union, Paul Marsh, has signalled that if future itineraries look similar post the FTP 2012, Australia should be prepared for more player breakdowns.
An overworked Australia will not have respite any time soon, as they complete the one day series in India only to have West Indies waiting for them at home.
Peter Siddle, who returned home from India, believes his injury was prompted by the steady workload that has been the bane of Australia’s cricket this season. Tim Nielsen, the Australian coach, believed that the seven match ODI series was too long and the only reason it was stretched was to rake in the moolah, a fact that Ricky Ponting, the Australian captain, hinted with a veil.
But whether India can be blamed or whether the ICC should be looking into all cricket teams’ schedules, Australia are perhaps showing too much of a good thing is not really good, not for the cricketers anyway.
It is no wonder that Ponting believes it will be something extraordinary if his team can win the series, but the way Australia are competing, their depth in bench strength is still quite remarkable.
