Sreelata Yellamrazu | Mar 3 2009

The most unbelievable scenes came from outside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, not inside. And it was ugly images, the nightmares of touring coming chilling true.
In the worst case scenario that is a nightmare for any host nation, the Sri Lankan players traveling to the stadium in their coach came under attack by terrorists who released gun fire and threw hand grenades.
An ordinary morning was turned into carnage as Pakistan police force battled against the terrorists who could have caused a lot more damage that they eventually managed to inflict. The bus was close to the stadium when Sri Lankan cricketers were greeted with gun fire by reportedly by twelve well armed men who surrounded the bus.
While there are conflicting reports of the number of players as also the names of players who were injured in the fiasco, what is known is that the team was shaken by the incident. Amongst those with minor injuries (unconfirmed reports) include Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera, Taranga and one local umpire Hassan Raza who has apparently suffered gun shot wounds and being operated upon in a hospital.
This ghastly attack not only brought the game to a halt, but has numbed cricket senses everywhere.
