For a second Test in a row, Pakistan have short changed them by one batting innings and it has cost them the match and the series.
The second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo saw the match finish in three days and that was in part to the first innings collapse that Pakistan suffered in just thirty-six overs.
Pakistan suffered a second batting collapse in the match and the third in a row after the first Test in Galle to hand Sri Lanka an incredible win. That they slipped from 285 for one to 320 all out in the second innings said it all.
Fawad Alam’s incredible Test century (168 to be precise) on debut and Pakistan captain, Younis Khan, who made eighty-two were quickly forgotten in the melee. Once again spinner Rangana Herath climbed up the impressive ladder in the absence of the injured Muttiah Muralitharan and off colour Ajantha Mendis to pick up a five wicket haul that destroyed Pakistan’s attempt to post a target of more than 170 for Sri Lanka.
Another day’s work was matched with Sri Lanka’s Malinda Warnapura scoring a half century and Sri Lanka captain, Kumar Sangakkara, and Mahela Jayawardene matched with useful contributions to get Sri Lanka to a comprehensive two nil victory in the Test series that will now see a dead rubber in a week’s time.
Nuwan Kulasekara, who picked up four wickets in each innings, and Alam shared the man of the match trophy in a match that Sri Lanka won by seven wickets, the demolish complete in a rather topsy-turvy Test.
