This may not be a revenge series per se. But Smith is not in a forgiving mood and he believes, neither are the South African crowds.
Graeme Smith, the South African captain, has thrown the gauntlet to Andrew Strauss, the England captain, to handle the last bit of unpleasantness he left behind from the ICC Champions Trophy 2009.
Strauss had refused a runner for Smith who was cramping badly on the way to making a brilliant 141 in a losing cause. While Smith admits that the umpires had the final say, he believes Strauss also made his stand clear that he would not allow a runner for an opponent for cramping.
Smith had issued a warning then that what goes round, comes round. And perhaps he is secretly hoping to show two can play the game.
Turning the table on Strauss, Smith believes Strauss’ decision was influenced from his captaincy, which he believes has given Strauss an air about him.
But perhaps rather than indulge in a one on one, Smith would have wisened up to ensuring that his team perform their best, humiliate the opposition and show their mettle and widen the chasm of points between the two teams.
