The Super Eight opening phase clicks in right for the Proteas, Kangaroos as well as the Kiwi’s.

England succumbed to a 19-run defeat against the Host nation South Africa, as Morkel produced a fine all-round display. The number seven batsman scored 43 from 20 balls in African’s total of 154 for eight and also claimed two wickets in England’s reply of 135 for seven. None of the Englishmen batsman was able to match his performance, with Owais Shah finishing as top-score on 36. Earlier, paceman Stuart Broad led England’s disciplined bowling performance with a haul of three for 37 to send the Africans reeling at 94 for six.

Aussie’s Brett Lee claimed the first international Twenty20 hat-trick to tear the middle order apart and restrict Bangladesh to 123 for 8 before Hayden, in aggressive mood as usual, powered Australia to a nine-wicket victory along with Gilchrist who added 43 in a 104-run opening partnership.

Meanwhile, a brilliant spell of Vettori’s spin made India to roll as they wasted a good start and crashed to a 10-run defeat. Gambhir top-scorer for India with 51, shared in an opening stand of 76 off just 37 deliveries with Sehwag. Earlier, McMillan and Oram making the most of the last five overs lifted New Zealand to a challenging total as the pair shared a partnership of 73 runs in 5.2 overs to guide New Zealand 190 all out in 20 overs.
