Kumar Sangakara has now scored five double centuries in tests. With the possibility of another ten years in the cricketing field, Sangakara can break all batting records in test matches. With the help of his unbeaten 200, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 451 in their first inning against Bangladesh at Kandy. Earlier, Bangladesh only managed to score 62 in their first inning.
After declaring, Sri Lanka also grabbed four Bangladesh wickets in just 69 runs. Bangladesh at present is trailing by 320 runs and with three more days to go in this test match, victory of Sri Lanka looks certain in the third day. Chaminda Vaas and Dilhara Fernando took two wickets each in the second inning of Bangladesh. Sri Lanka is already leading the three match test series by 1-0.
This dismal performance by Bangladesh has once again raised the question of whether they deserve to be a test-playing nation? No doubt, they are a competitive one day side but their test performances are not improving despite being given ample opportunities by ICC.
