Even as the New Zealand captain, Daniel Vettori, has openly expressed interest in having former New Zealand captain, Stephen Fleming, as coach, Fleming himself does not appear to be up for it.
Fleming has turned down entertaining the idea of becoming the coach of the national side, stating that he did not have the time or the inclination to take up the post.
Fleming is involved in setting up his own business and spoke a while back of the difficulties in doing so. Now he appears to be committed to his off field activity too much to be able to answer the call for a coach.
Fleming also honestly stated that he is not that far removed from the current crop of players, most of whom have played alongside Fleming, and also that his credentials as a coach were yet to be tested.
The post was made vacant following a media report about the New Zealand cricketers brazenly unhappy about the coaching skills of Andy Moles who subsequently resigned ahead of the New Zealand Pakistan series in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Fleming took over from South African, Kepler Wessels, as coach of the IPL Twenty20 team, Chennai Super Kings, and perhaps it is the only cricket commitment he is willing to lend to at the moment besides his business and family.
