Symonds Will Not Be Going to South Africa
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Feb 3 2009

Andrew Symonds may be thinking less of New Zealand’s Brendon MCullum but Cricket Australia is thinking even less of Symonds which is clear from his being excluded from the team traveling to South Africa later this month.
Symonds’ latest breach of conduct has not gone down well with the directors of Cricket Australia (CA) and agreed with the CA chief James Sutherland that Symonds should undergo further psychological rehabilitation and work in his own interests before he claims a spot in the Australian team again.
But time is certainly running out for the thirty three year old and few things have gone right for him since the monkey gate scandal broke out in Sydney last year. He missed the tour to India, went through an indifferent home series against New Zealand South Africa and now he is set to miss out on the tour to South Africa.
It will be a big blow given that Symonds can turn a match on its head and Australia can, at the moment, use every resource possible to redeem their lost fortunes but it appears even the skipper Ricky Ponting’s backing of Symonds has not convinced the man that be. Not only has it belittled Symonds’ image, it has also caused doubts about how much the skipper’s word is being valued as Australia face bleak days.
