What does India have to do to hold onto the no.1 Test team position? And what does South Africa have to do to dethrone the team that dethroned them?
The championship bout of South Africa’s tour of India begins Saturday and India will managed to hold onto the top ranking in the ICC Test rankings and the mace if they manage to draw the series.
If South Africa win the series 1-0, they go from 120 points to 123 points while India drop from their current 125 points to 122 points and South Africa will collect the $175,000 from the ICC. A 2-0 win gives them 125 points.
If India win the series 1-0, they will go up to 127 points while South Africa will drop down to 118 points and a 2-0 win for India will see the southern hemisphere nation drop down further to 116 points.
An outright win for either team will establish who remains the dominant team as the year closes in on a rank, a top rank that is.
