Tony Greig and Kevin Pietersen, both former captains of England, were forced to resign under duress. Kevin’s letter was taken as resignation when he suggested changes in the team setup after the debacle of India’s Tour in 2008. But in 1977 Tony Greig who also came to India as the England captain, returned home victorious but due to some controversy regarding the Kerry Packer’s World series, he had to resign with as many accusations as Kevin is being accused of.
Tony is fully supportive of Kevin Pietersen’s stand. He is totally against the notion that coaches having any say in the team affairs. In his opinion, they should know their place and that the captain is the final authority. As per Grieg only the captain is the supreme power and any coach who develops the notion that he occupies the same position as the captain should be got rid of it as soon as possible.
He thinks that since the captain has to work with the coach, he should have a say in the choosing the coach, not every or anyone can be given the job of the coach.
As per Tony he had a feeling that since there were differences between Moores and Pietersen, it was just a matter of time when these differences would lead to ouster of either one of them. It should have been the coach but unfortunately England had to lose an extremely talented captain who still has untapped potential.
When Tony was reinstated in the team he gave some of his best performance in his cricket career, and he wishes the same for Kevin.
